FAQ

  • The Portal-Fin is not just another kiteboard fin—it is a completely new approach to fin design, inspired by aerodynamic principles used in MotoGP, aircraft engineering, and high-performance automotive technology. Standard fins just provide directional stability while the boxwing adds power and helps to control it, enhances the takeoff and aids on landings, what boost confidence and progression.

  • The Portal-Fin is designed to fit most standard twintip kiteboards and is compatible with M5, M6, and F-One Standard mounting systems. However, some boards with extreme channels, deep concaves, or unique rocker lines may not be fully compatible.

    Known Compatibility Issues:

    • Naish Monarch 2024

    • Future F14

    • Shinn ADHD 2021

If your board is not listed above and you experience compatibility issues, please send detailed photos and a description to support@way-watersports.com, and we will assist you in finding a solution.

  • The Portal-Fin is mounted from below, which means:

    • No exposed screws on the deck gives a clean and sleek look.

    • Easy installation using the included screws and stainless steel connection for best durability and longevity.

    • Less load on the board and connection.

A detailed installation guide is provided with each order.

A Phillips screw driver is required.

  • Yes, every set comes with A4 stainless steel screws, chosen for durability in saltwater conditions.

  • It’s recommended to regularly check the screws for tightness when you've experienced following:

    • Hard landings from big jumps.

    • Riding in choppy conditions where the board experiences heavy vibrations.

    • Extended periods of use without maintenance.

  • The Portal-Fin provides significantly more grip compared to standard fins. The hollow profile increases edge hold, which means:

    • Tighter and more controlled carves.

    • More stability in high-speed riding.

    • Better control when loading up for jumps.

  • Absolutely. The increased grip allows for stronger edging, which means:

    • More energy stored before take-off.

    • Explosive pop, giving you more height.

    • Better stability in the water, as the Portal-Fin reduces unwanted board movement.

  • Yes, the optimized waterflow and extended surface area help generate more efficient power and better upwind angles, so you spend less energy fighting the wind and more time riding.

  • Take-offs feel more controlled, allowing you to load more power into your jumps.

Landings are smoother, thanks to the channeled waterflow on both heel- and toeside.

  • The Portal-Fin was specifically engineered for performance-oriented riders — those who demand more grip, control, and upwind power to push their limits in Big Air, Freeride, and technical maneuvers. It’s built to unlock the full potential of your board and enhance your riding experience in all conditions.

That said, beginners can also benefit from the Portal-Fin's increased stability and smoother upwind tracking, which support a more intuitive learning curve and greater safety on the water.

As with all kiteboarding equipment, we strongly recommend proper training and guidance from a certified instructor to ensure safe and effective use.

  • The Portal-Fin is crafted from Polyamide TR 90 UV, a high-performance material known for its exceptional strength, impact resistance, and UV stability. This material is widely used in racing windshields, medical applications, and automotive components, ensuring durability in demanding environments. It offers a lightweight yet robust construction that withstands intense riding conditions while maintaining agility and responsiveness on the water.

  • Yes, the Portal-Fin is covered by a 2-year legal warranty under Austrian consumer protection laws. This warranty applies to material and manufacturing defects, ensuring that your Portal-Fin meets the highest quality standards. Damage resulting from misuse, improper installation, or impact with obstacles is not covered.

If you believe your Portal-Fin has a warranty-related issue, please reach out to our support team (support@way-watersports.com) with photos and a description of the problem, and we’ll be happy to assist.

  • To keep your Portal-Fin performing at its best, an occasional rinse with fresh water helps remove salt and debris—especially after riding in saltwater.

Every now and then, check that the screws are secure and free of buildup. You don’t have to remove the Portal-Fin every time, but occasional cleaning helps maintain smooth function.

For storage, simply keep it in a dry, shaded place away from direct sun and heat—just like any quality gear you want to protect long-term.

    • Be mindful of the increased grip and responsiveness—the Portal-Fin provides more edge hold than traditional fins, which may slightly alter the feel of the board. Take time to adjust to its performance benefits.

    • Avoid extremely shallow waters or obstacle-rich areas to prevent potential damage to both the fin and your board.

    • Always assess wind, water, and weather conditions before heading out. Each session is different, and understanding the conditions around you is essential for safe and enjoyable riding.
